Explanation
We remember the way home by landmarks: a shop, a park, a mosque, a pharmacy. If we know how many right and left turns there are, we won’t get lost. Sometimes there are two routes: one short, one long. We choose the safe one, not just the short one — the route with traffic lights and crossings.
Worked examples
Leave school, turn left, walk past the park, turn right at the pharmacy — home is there.
The short route crosses a big road with no traffic light; the longer one has a traffic light — the longer route is safer.
Class activity
Together children draw a big map of the area around school: the school, houses, a shop, traffic lights. Then each child traces their route with a finger and counts the turns.
