Explanation
A safe place is where nothing can hurt us. We cross the road only at a pedestrian crossing and on the green light. Building sites, playing by the roadside, open wells and electric sockets are dangerous. Before doing something we ask ourselves: “Is this safe?”
Worked examples
Dangerous: a child runs into the road chasing a ball.
Safe: children play in the playground with adults nearby.
Class activity
“Green or red card”: the teacher describes a situation (e.g. “Playing with matches”). Children raise a green card if it is safe, a red card if it is dangerous, and explain why.
