Far — near
Textbook pp. 48–49
GoalCompare and say whether things are near to or far from each other.
New words
far · uzoqnear · yaqinnearer · yaqinroqdistance · masofa
Explanation
The space between two things is called distance. A small distance means near, a big one means far. To find whose stone went farther, we can count steps: more steps means farther. Things far away look smaller to our eyes.
Worked examples
The board is near the first desk and far from the last desk.
A plane far up in the sky looks tiny.
Class activity
“Who is farther?”: in the yard, children take turns throwing a soft ball from one line. Steps to where the ball landed are counted, and the class says who threw farthest and nearest.
