Explanation
Our skin, especially our fingertips, gives us lots of information when we touch things. Snow is cold, tea is hot, cat fur is soft, a stone is hard. In winter we wear gloves to protect our hands from the cold. Never touch very hot or sharp things.

Cotton is soft and light.
Class activity
“Magic bag”: put different objects in a bag; a child feels one without looking, describes it (“soft”, “hard”, “smooth”) and guesses what it is.
