Explanation
Our nose senses smells. Flowers, fresh bread and apples smell pleasant; rubbish and smoke smell unpleasant. Smell also warns us of danger: if you smell burning or gas, tell an adult at once.
Worked examples
Pleasant: a rose, fresh bread, a lemon.
Unpleasant: smoke, rotten fruit, a rubbish bin.
Class activity
“Nose detective”: a blindfolded child guesses what is in small cups (orange peel, a spice, soap) by smell.
