Opposites
Textbook pp. 68–69
GoalFind and pair opposite features of things; pick out the odd one.
New words
opposite · qarama-qarshihot — cold · issiq — sovuqheavy — light · og‘ir — yengilopen — closed · ochiq — yopiq
Explanation
Everything has features. Some features are the reverse of each other: big — small, hot — cold, day — night. These are opposites. A computer also often works with two states: on — off.
Worked examples
Ice cream is cold, tea is hot.
An elephant is heavy, a feather is light.
Class activity
“Say the opposite”: the teacher throws a ball and says a word (“tall”); the child who catches it says the opposite (“short”) and throws it back. Then children find opposite pairs in the classroom: an open and a closed door, a long and a short pencil.
