My goals and our class pledge
Discover P3 Term 1: Axis 1, Chapter 1
GoalSet a goal for a life skill with two strategies, check my work, and help write a class pledge.
New words
goal · something I want to reach or dopledge · a promise that a group makes togetherself-assessment · checking my own work and effort honestlystrategy · a plan of action that helps me reach a goal
Explanation
A good goal is small, clear and possible. First choose a life skill you want to improve, for example listening. Write your goal: “This week I will listen without interrupting.” Then choose two strategies, which are actions that help: look at the speaker, and count to three before I talk. Check your goal every day and put a tick when you did it. At the end, ask yourself: Did I need help? Did I do it by myself? Could I do it in more than one way? A class can also make a pledge, which is a promise everybody writes and signs, such as “We listen to each other. We help each other. We tell the truth.” A pledge reminds the whole class how to work together.

Marwan’s goal: “This week I will pack my bag every evening.” His strategies: use a checklist, and set a reminder with a grown-up. He puts a tick on each day he does it.
At the end of the week Marwan asks himself three questions and colours stars: I did it with help, I did it by myself, or I did it in more than one way.
A class pledge: “We listen to each other. We help each other. We tell the truth. We keep our classroom clean.” Everybody signs it and it goes on the wall.
Class activity
Make your goal card. Write one life skill you want to improve and one sentence for your goal. Add two strategies. Draw a row of five boxes for five school days. Tick a box each day you try. Then, as a class, write four promises for a class pledge and sign it.

2
Write one strategy that can help you be better at organising.
For example: pack my bag at night, use a checklist, put things back in the same place.
