Review: skills, body and food
Let us remember Axis 1. Life skills such as organising, creating, solving problems, communicating, setting goals and listening help us every day, and a good goal is small, clear and possible. Healthy habits are enough sleep, which is about 9 to 12 hours for children, active play, staying calm, healthy food and water. Our organs have jobs. Skin is a shield, bones and muscles work together to move us and protect soft organs, the stomach squeezes and mixes food, and the heart pumps blood with oxygen and nutrients round the body. To find a pulse rate, count the beats in 15 seconds and multiply by 4. Foods hold nutrients. Carbohydrates give energy, proteins help the body grow and repair itself, fats store energy, and vitamins and minerals are needed in small amounts. On a food label, compare the same serving size, and choose less sugar and more fibre. Water keeps the body working. In a fair test we change only one thing.

Body and food game. In pairs, write 8 cards: skin, bones, muscles, stomach, heart, pulse, nutrients and water. Take turns to pick a card and explain it in one sentence. Then plan your week: choose one life skill to improve and write a goal that is small, clear and possible. Add two strategies and three healthy habits to tick every day. Check the pulse test only with a grown-up.
