Explanation
A life skill is something you can do that helps you in everyday life. Some life skills are organising your work, creating, solving problems, communicating, setting goals and listening. When you pack your bag the night before, you organise your work. When you draw a poster, you create. When two friends want the same ball and find a fair way to share, they solve a problem. When you listen without interrupting, you show respect. Nobody is good at every skill on the first day. We all have skills we are strong in and skills we can improve by practising. Knowing both is the first step to getting stronger.

Worked examples
Youssef finds his school bag packed and his shoes by the door because he got ready the night before. He is organising his work, so he is never late.
Mariam wants to decorate the classroom door. She thinks of a new idea: a paper river with paper boats. She is creating.
Omar and his cousin both want to play with the same football. Omar says, “You play for ten minutes, then I play for ten minutes.” They solve the problem and nobody is cross.
Class activity
Skill check. With a grown-up, read the six skills in the table. Draw a star next to two skills you are good at. Draw a circle next to one skill you want to improve. Say one thing you can do this week to practise it.
