Our anthem and our songs
A national anthem is a special song of a country. Egypt’s anthem is called “Bilady, Bilady, Bilady”. People sing it or listen to it at school, at sports matches and on national days. When it is played, we stand straight, face the flag and listen quietly. A song has lyrics, which are its words, and a melody, which is its tune. Songs help people feel together and proud. To make our own two-part song about our community, we write part 1 about the place and part 2 about the people. We find a rhythm by clapping, and we sing together and listen to each other.
| Part | It is about |
|---|---|
| Part 1 | the place: the bakery, the trees, the school |
| Part 2 | the people: neighbours who help each other |
Make our song. With a friend, plan a short song with two parts about your community. Part 1 is about the place and part 2 is about the people. Find a rhythm by clapping. Sing it to your family. Also read the national anthem in your Discover book, pages 181 and 183, with a grown-up. Tell one feeling you get from it.
