Jobs in a family
Discover P2 Term 1: Axis 1, Chapter 1
GoalSay who does which jobs at home and show family jobs in a bar graph.
New words
job at home · something I do to help my familybar graph · a picture that uses bars to show how many
Explanation
A family is a group of people who live together and care for each other. In a family, everyone helps. Mum may cook dinner and Dad may fix a broken chair. Grandma may go to the market to buy bread and vegetables. Children can help too. They can set the table, water the plants or tidy their toys. When everybody does a job, the home stays clean and happy. We can count how many children do each job and show it in a bar graph.
Worked examples
Salma’s grandma goes to the market. She buys bread and tomatoes. Salma helps and carries the bag.
Omar’s dad fixes a wobbly chair with a hammer. Omar holds the chair still. Fixing things is a job at home.
Mariam asks 10 children in her class: “Which job do you do at home?” Four set the table, three water the plants, two feed the cat and one washes the dishes. 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 10, so every child is counted once.
Class activity
Make a family jobs chart. Ask each person at home: “What job do you do to help?” Draw a small picture for each job. Make one tally mark for each person who does it. Which job do most people do?
