Explanation

Egypt has many different environments. The Nile is a long river with green fields beside it. The desert is dry, with sand and rocks. The sea has salty water and fish. The mountains are high and rocky. A city has buildings, roads and many people. We can describe a place with our senses. We say what we see, hear, smell and feel.

Karim describes the Nile: “I see a felucca and green fields. I hear birds. The water feels cool.”
Mina describes the city: “I hear buses and horns. I smell bread from the bakery. I see tall buildings.”
Class activity

Describe a place. Sit in a place you know well, such as the balcony, the street or a park. Look, listen and smell. Touch only safe things. Say or draw three things you notice. Then describe the place to a friend who cannot see it. Do not taste anything you do not know.
