Planning our city
A city needs many things so that people are safe, healthy and happy. When we plan a city, we list each thing and its purpose. Homes are for living. A school is for learning. A hospital is for care when we are ill. A fire station and a police station keep people safe. A market is for buying food. Roads and bus stops help people travel. A park is for playing and resting. A water station and a power station give us water and electricity. To build a model city we also make a list of supplies, such as boxes, paper, glue and crayons. We circle the things we can bring from home.
| Item | Purpose |

| school | learning |

Plan a model city. In a team of four, choose a topic: homes, safety, services or play. List ten things for your topic. Next to each thing write its purpose. Then write a list of supplies, and circle the things you can bring from home. Check your plan: does every person in the city have a safe place, water, food and somewhere to play?
