Left and right

Learner’s Book 1: Unit 16, pp. 237–238
GoalTell left from right and use the words to say where things are.
New words
left · the side of your body where your left hand isright · the other side, where your right hand isturn · change the way you are facing
Explanation

Look at your hands. Your left hand and your right hand are different. A trick: hold up both hands with your palms facing away from you and your thumbs and first fingers stretched out. The hand that makes a proper letter L is your left hand. When we say left or right, we say it from the person’s own side. In a picture, left is the side near the left edge of the page. When you turn right, you turn towards your right hand.

Class activity

Left and right game: stand in a line with a friend. One of you gives a command such as ‘touch your left ear’ or ‘hop on your right foot’. Then try ‘turn left, then turn right’ with your eyes open. Give each other 5 commands.
