Make a pattern with 12 buttons, spoons or leaves. Say the rule out loud. Ask someone to say what comes next.
Any repeating pattern with a clear rule (e.g. button, button, spoon). The child names the next item.

Stand in front of a table with 6 things on it in 2 rows of 3. Say where each thing is using above, below, next to and between.
Correct use of the words; check that each sentence matches what is on the table.

Ask someone to say ‘left’ or ‘right’ and you point or hop to that side. Do it 6 times.
The child points to the correct side each time. Help with the L-shape on the left hand.

Give a grown-up directions to walk from the door to a chair. Use forward, turn left and turn right.
Directions that match the room. The grown-up takes one step for each number.
