Explanation

We can show the same number in many different ways. Take 18. We can write the digits 1 and 8. We can write the word eighteen. We can show 18 dots in ten frames, with a full ten and 8 ones. We can write 10 + 8 = 18. We can find 18 on the number track. We can draw 18 apples in two rows. However we show it, the number is still 18.

Class activity

Show it: choose a number from 11 to 20. Show it in 4 different ways on paper: with dots, with the digits, with the word and as 10 and some more. Ask your partner to guess your number first from the dots.
