Counting to 20
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Count out loud from 1 to 20, then from 10 to 20. Count again and clap on each teen number.
The child counts correctly in order; teen numbers are 13 to 19.
2
Count 15 small things (beans, buttons, stones). Put 10 in one pile and the others in a second pile. Say ‘10 and … make 15’.
10 in one pile, 5 in the other: 10 + 5 = 15.
3
Write the number words eleven to twenty on paper. Copy them carefully.
eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen, twenty.
4
Find the numbers 11 to 20 at home (on a calendar, a clock or a book). Which ones can you find?
Any numbers found; the child says each one.
5
Show the number 17 in three different ways.
For example dots in a ten frame, the digits 1 and 7, the word seventeen, or 10 + 7 = 17.
