Explanation

Guess: “Is the cat sleeping?” — “Yes, it is.” or “No, it isn’t. It’s eating.” For several animals: “Are the sheep eating?” — “Yes, they are.” In a question “is” (or “are”) comes first and the -ing verb last.

Worked examples
— Is the goat jumping? — Yes, it is.
— Are the ducks swimming? — No, they aren’t. They’re sleeping.
Class activity

“Yes or no”: a child secretly picks an animal action. The class asks “Is it jumping?”, “Is it eating?” and finds the action.
