Explanation

We ask what is happening now: “What’s the duck doing?” Answer: “It’s swimming.” We add -ing: swim — swimming (double the m), eat — eating, sleep — sleeping, run — running (double the n), jump — jumping. For people: “What’s he doing?” — “He’s running.”

Worked examples
— What’s the duck doing? — It’s swimming.
— What’s the horse doing? — It’s running in the field.
Class activity

“Animal mime”: a child acts as an animal doing something (sleeping, eating, jumping). The class asks “What’s the … doing?” — “It’s …ing.”
