What is a sentence?

Textbook Part 1, pp. 74–77
GoalKnow that a sentence expresses a complete thought and tell it apart from a list of words.
New words
sentence · gapthought · fikrcomplete · tugallangancapital letter · bosh harf
Explanation

A sentence is made of words and expresses a complete thought. “Mushuk, sut, ichdi” is not yet a sentence — the words aren’t connected. “Mushuk sut ichdi.” (The cat drank milk.) is a sentence. The first word starts with a capital letter, and the words are written separately.

Worked examples
Words: bog‘ (garden), gullar (flowers), ochildi (opened) → Sentence: Bog‘da gullar ochildi. (Flowers bloomed in the garden.)
“Mening akam” (My older brother) is not a sentence: the thought is not finished.
Class activity

“Sentence or not?”: the teacher says a group of words or a sentence. If it’s a sentence, children stand up and raise a hand; if not, they stay seated.
