Explanation
Only people have speech. Animals make sounds, but that is not speech. Spoken speech is what we say and hear (the word comes from og‘iz, “mouth”). Written speech is what we write and read, using letters and signs.

Talking on the phone is spoken speech.
Writing a letter to Grandpa is written speech.

Children ask their parents what their first word was and share it: “My first word was ...”.
