Numbers from 21 to 100
Textbook Part 2, pp. 38–39
GoalCount to 100; count in twos, fives and tens; find a number’s neighbours.
New words
in twos · ikkitalabin fives · beshtalabneighbouring numbers · qo‘shni sonlar
Explanation
After 20, two-digit numbers (other than round tens) have two-word names: 31 is “o‘ttiz bir” (thirty-one), 56 is “ellik olti” (fifty-six). When counting many things, it is easier to count in twos, fives or tens.
Worked examples
The neighbours of 42: 41 and 43.
A shopkeeper counted 40 buttons in fives: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 — 8 times.
Class activity
Hundred square (10×10): children colour the squares they land on counting in fives in one colour, and in tens in another. What pattern appears?
