Subtracting numbers to 20
Textbook Part 2, pp. 30–31
GoalSubtract without crossing ten: take ones from ones (16 − 4).
New words
subtract from the ones · birliklardan ayirishsnowball · qor to‘pibird feeder · donxo‘rak
Explanation
If the ones in the first number are greater than or equal to the number being taken away, subtract from the ones only — the ten stays. 16 − 4: 6 − 4 = 2, keep the ten → 12.
Worked examples
4 of 16 snowballs were thrown: 16 − 4 = 12.
Akmal found out on 2 December; the talk is on 11 December: 11 − 2 = 9 days left.
Class activity
Children build the number with a ten-bundle and single sticks, then remove only single sticks and read the result.
