Comparing
Textbook pp. 66–67
GoalCompare two or more things and find what is the same and what is different.
New words
comparing · taqqoslashalike, similar · o‘xshashdifference · farqfeature · belgi
Explanation
To compare, we check features one by one: colour, shape, size, number. Same features are similarities, different ones are differences. If we look carefully, we can find even small differences between pictures that look almost the same.
Worked examples
An apple and a ball: both are round (alike); you can eat an apple but not a ball (different).
Two little houses: one has 2 windows, the other 3; one has a red roof, the other a green roof.
Class activity
“What changed?”: 3 children stand at the front. The others look, then close their eyes. One child changes something (rolls up a sleeve, fixes their hair). The class finds the difference.
Practice
1
How are a cat and a dog alike?
For example: both have 4 legs and a tail
2
How are a pencil and a pen different?
Pencil writing can be rubbed out, pen writing hardly can
