Path and direction
Textbook pp. 50–51
GoalMove on a grid map following directions (up, down, left, right) and count turns.
New words
direction · yo‘nalishto turn · burilmoqsquare (on a grid) · katakarrow · strelka
Explanation
To explain a path we say the direction and the number of steps: “2 squares right, 1 square up”. This is an algorithm too. Written with arrows it is short and exact: → → ↑. A robot or a game character moves by commands like these.
Worked examples
Turtle: → → ↑ ↑ ↑ — 2 squares right, 3 squares up.
The car turned left at a crossroads, then turned right — 2 turns in all.
Class activity
Draw a 4×4 grid on the floor with chalk or tape. Put an “apple” in one square. One child is the robot standing in a corner square; the class builds its path with arrow cards.
