My school uniform: adjective order
When we use more than one adjective, we put them in the right order: opinion, size, age, colour, material. We say a lovely small new blue cotton shirt. We do not say a cotton blue shirt. Look at the table and use it to write about a school uniform. Materials: cotton, wool, leather and silk. Maths corner: multiply two-digit numbers. A tailor makes 24 shirts a day. In 15 days he makes 24 × 15 = 360 shirts.
| Opinion | Size | Age | Colour | Material | Noun |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| lovely | small | new | blue | cotton | shirt |
| smart | long | old | grey | wool | coat |
My school uniform is smart. The boys wear a pale blue cotton shirt and dark blue trousers. The girls wear a long navy skirt. We all wear black leather shoes and white socks. When it is cold, we put on a warm grey wool sweater. I like my uniform because it is comfortable.
I want a nice big white cotton shirt.
Good order! Opinion, size, colour, material.
And my old blue cotton skirt is too short now.
Dress the doll. Draw a child in school uniform. Label each piece with two or three adjectives in the right order, for example a new white cotton shirt. Read the labels aloud to the grown-up.
