Units 1–3: games with words
In Units 1 to 3 you learned words in three groups: food, sports and clothes. You also learned a, an and some, good at + -ing, better than, to + verb for a reason, and adjectives. Today we play with the words. A riddle gives clues: It is yellow, it is a fruit, and monkeys like it. What is it? It is a banana. In an odd one out game, we find the word that does not belong to the group.
You wear me round your neck in winter. What am I?
A scarf! Now my riddle: you kick me into the goal.
A football! Good game. Now I say a sentence: I am good at kicking a football.
And I am better at tennis than at football.
Karim and Rania play a word game after lunch. Rania says three words: banana, football, carrot. Karim says, Football is the odd one out, because it is a sport and the others are food. Then Karim says a sentence with each word. He is good at word games, but Rania is the best player.
Word bingo. Draw a grid of nine boxes. Write nine words from Units 1 to 3, for example lemon, court, sleeve, goggles, bean, striped. The grown-up reads riddles. The child puts a counter on the answer. Three in a row wins.
