Units 7–9: games with house words
In Units 7 to 9 you learned many words. House words: television, shower, balcony, armchair, cushion, lift and oven. Un- words: un- gives the opposite, so happy becomes unhappy, safe becomes unsafe, comfortable becomes uncomfortable and friendly becomes unfriendly. Past simple words: regular verbs end in -ed (visit, visited), and some verbs change: go, went; see, saw; buy, bought; drink, drank; have, had. Play the games below and use all three kinds of words.
| Word | Opposite with un- |
|---|---|
| happy | unhappy |
| safe | unsafe |
| comfortable | uncomfortable |
| friendly | unfriendly |
I am a room. You cook in me. What am I?
You are the kitchen!
Yes! Now you. I am soft. I am on the armchair.
You are a cushion!
Mona had a lovely day yesterday. She went to her aunt’s flat and they sat on the balcony. They drank juice and ate cake. Then Mona saw a cat on the armchair. The cat looked unhappy, so she gave it a cushion. The cat slept on it. Mona was happy too.
Three-in-one game. Make three piles of cards: house words, un- words and verbs. The child picks a card from each pile and makes one sentence, for example: Yesterday I saw an unhappy cat on the balcony. Each correct sentence gets a point.
