Counting, graphs and number tools
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Ask eight people which they like more, tea or juice (or two choices you pick). Make two bars with squares and say which is more.
The two bars must add up to 8 answers; the child names the taller bar.
2
With a grown-up and a timer, count how many times you clap in one minute. Say if it is more or fewer than your prediction.
Any number; the child compares with the prediction using more than, fewer than or equal.
3
Make a number story with 5 and 2. Say it and write the number sentence.
5 + 2 = 7 (adding) or 5 − 2 = 3 (taking away).
4
Find something at home that helps with numbers, such as a calculator, a clock or a computer. Tell a grown-up how it helps.
Any sensible answer, for example: a clock tells the time.
