Numbers all around us
Discover Term 2: Axis 4, Chapter 2
GoalFind numbers in the world around us and say what each one tells us.
New words
information · something we learn or find outprice · how much money something costs
Explanation
Communicating with numbers: Numbers are everywhere. A number on a bus tells us which bus it is. A clock shows the time. A calendar shows the day. A number on a door shows which home it is. A label shows the price. Numbers tell us how many, which one, what time and how much. They give us information.
Worked examples

The thermometer shows 30. It tells us how hot the day is.
A ruler has numbers to tell us how long. A stopwatch has numbers to tell us how long something takes.
