GoalSay what farmers do and tell farm work from factory work.
New words
farmer · a person who grows crops and looks after animalstractor · a strong vehicle that helps on a farmharvest · picking a crop when it is readyfactory · a place where machines make things
Explanation
A farmer grows crops and looks after animals. A farmer makes the soil soft, plants seeds, waters the plants and harvests the crop. A farmer uses tools, such as a tractor, a bucket and a basket. A factory is different. In a factory, workers and machines make things, such as bottles, cans and clothes. Farms give us food. Factories make many things we use.
Worked examples
The farmer drives a tractor to make the soil soft before he plants seeds.
Look at the two groups. Farms have a tractor, a cow and a field of wheat. Factories have machines.
Uncle Hassan has 3 cows and 4 sheep on his farm. Count them: 7 animals.
Class activity
Farm play. Be a farmer. Pretend to plant seeds, water them and harvest the crop into a basket. Say the jobs in order: plant, water, grow, harvest. Then draw yourself as a farmer with a tool.
