Rights, rules and being responsible
Discover Term 1: Axis 1, Chapter 4
GoalSay some rights children have, follow rules and be responsible.
New words
right · something every child should haverule · something we agree to doresponsible · doing the right thing and looking after things
Explanation
Every child has rights. We have the right to be safe. We have the right to learn. We have the right to share our ideas. Rules help us. We walk in the corridor and we wait for our turn. A responsible child does the right thing. A responsible child puts litter in the bin and looks after books and toys.
Worked examples
Following a rule: Mariam walks in line to the class. This is a good choice.
Karim finds a wrapper on the ground. He puts it in the bin. He is responsible.
Youssef raises his hand to share an idea. He waits for his turn to speak.
Class activity
Make a rules poster for your class or home. Draw a happy face next to each good rule, such as “listen”, “take turns”, “be kind”. Draw a sad face next to a rule that is broken. Talk about how to try again.
