Tell it and listen kindly
Discover Term 2: Axis 4, Chapter 1
GoalTell my story clearly, listen to my friends, and give kind feedback.
New words
feedback · kind words that help someone do betterlistener · a person who listens
Explanation
When we tell a story, we speak clearly and not too fast. We use a voice that everyone can hear. We look at our friends. We use the words first, next and last. When we listen, we sit quietly and look at the speaker. Then we give feedback. First we say something we liked: “I liked the part when…”. Then we can ask a question: “I wonder what…”. We always use kind words.
Worked examples
Mona speaks clearly. Her voice is not too loud and not too quiet.
Youssef says: “I liked the part about the felucca.” That is kind feedback.
Which way is kind? “Your story is boring” or “I wonder what happened next”?
Class activity
Story time: with family or friends, tell your story using your three boxes. Speak clearly. Ask your listener to say one thing they liked and one question they have. Then say thank you.
