A story in order
Discover Term 2: Axis 4, Chapter 1
GoalName the characters and setting of a story and put its events in order.
New words
character · a person or animal in a storysetting · where a story happens
Explanation
In storytelling, a story has characters, a setting and events. The characters are who the story is about. The setting is where it happens. The events happen in order: a beginning, a middle and an end. We say first, next, then and last. Karim takes his kite to the park. Next, the wind blows and the kite goes up. Last, the kite flies high and Karim smiles. We can add our senses, too: he feels the wind and hears the string.
Worked examples
Characters: Karim and his sister Jana. Setting: the park by the river. Event: they fly a kite.
First Mariam plants a seed. Next she waters it. Last a green plant grows.
We use these words to put events in order.
