How do we measure?

Find a ruler. Measure 3 things (a pencil, a spoon, a book). Start at 0 each time and say how long each is.
Any sensible measurements in whole cm; the child starts at 0 and reads the number at the end.

With a grown-up, look at a thermometer or the weather today. Is it hot, warm or cold? What do you wear?
Any correct word with a sensible reason about clothes.

Find a cup or jug with numbers on its side. Pour in some water and read the number at the top of the water.
The child reads the number beside the top of the water.

Choose two things at home. Which do you think is heavier? Hold them to check. Then say heavier than / lighter than.
