Why we learn foreign languages: what a language gives us
A person who knows a foreign language can talk to more people, read books and sites in the original and understand other peoples’ cultures better. Scientists, athletes, doctors, guides and many other professionals cooperate with foreign colleagues through language. Online translators are a useful helper: they quickly translate writing. But they are not always accurate and cannot fully replace a person. So we learn the language ourselves too. When we learn a new language, we also get to know the songs, tales and customs of the people who speak it. Our people have a saying: “Who knows a language, knows its people.”
“Greetings”: children walk around the class greeting and saying goodbye in different languages (Uzbek, Russian, English); the teacher writes the new words on the board.
