We are citizens of Uzbekistan: our homeland

Textbook p. 4
GoalUnderstand who a citizen is and what a homeland is made of.
New words
citizen · fuqarohomeland · Vatanneighbourhood community · mahalla
Explanation

A citizen is a person who belongs to a country, follows its laws and is protected by it. We are citizens of Uzbekistan. A homeland is not only a line on a map. It is nature (mountains, rivers, deserts), cities and villages, people, our family and neighbours, and traditions many centuries old. Loving the homeland means serving it with good deeds.

Worked examples
“Our neighbourhood”. In the neighbourhood where Oybek lives everybody knew each other. In spring the neighbours cleaned the street together and planted flower seedlings. Oybek carried water in a bucket. In the evening he saw how nice the street had become and was happy. He told himself: “My homeland begins with this very street too.”
Class activity

“My homeland” poster: in groups, children draw things dear to them about the homeland (nature, a city, family, a holiday) on big paper, write one sentence for each and show the class.
