Explanation

Is’hoqxon Ibrat was an enlightener who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He believed that young people would learn the news of science, culture and technology through knowing foreign languages. Ibrat learned several languages and compiled a multilingual dictionary. Effective ways to study a foreign language: practise a little every day; learn new words inside sentences; link a word with a picture; make flash cards; listen to songs and read children’s books in that language; speak without fear of mistakes. People who learn foreign languages develop stronger memory and can focus better.

Worked examples
“Flash cards”. Zafar did not simply write ten new English words in a notebook; he made a picture card for each one: a picture and the English word on one side and the Uzbek on the back. Every day he reviewed three cards. Within a week he could use all ten words in sentences.
Class activity

“Picture-word”: children draw pictures on cards and write the Uzbek and foreign word on the back. In pairs they quiz each other.
