The internet, our helper in learning

Explanation

The internet is a large network that connects the world’s computers and phones. Through it we can quickly find needed information, learn the news, talk to relatives far away and send letters. Sometimes the internet is like a huge library: it helps us learn a lesson. But not everything is true. To find reliable information: we compare several sources; we look at who wrote it and when; if in doubt, we ask a book or the teacher. Checking facts is part of learning.

Worked examples
“The snow leopard”. Zebo was preparing a short talk about the snow leopard. One site said it lives 20 years, another gave a different number. Zebo did not rush: she opened the encyclopedia in the library and asked her teacher. It turned out that they live shorter lives in the wild and longer in a zoo. Zebo wrote both facts in her talk and named her sources.
Class activity

“True or doubtful?”: the teacher reads several pieces of information (right and wrong). Children say where to check each (book, teacher, second source).
