A water drop’s journey
Textbook Part 2, pp. 23–24
GoalUnderstand the water cycle in nature; work out the order of events.
New words
vapour, steam · bug‘cloud · bulutrain · yomg‘ircycle · aylanish
Explanation
When the water of seas, rivers and lakes gets warm, it evaporates. The vapour rises and forms clouds. When a cloud gets heavy, drops fall to the ground as rain, hail or snow and flow back into rivers and lakes. This is the water cycle in nature.
Worked examples
“A drop’s journey”. A drop in the lake warmed up in the sun and turned into vapour. It rose into the sky and made a cloud with other drops. When the cloud became heavy, the drop fell to the ground as rain. It flowed back to the lake along a stream. And so the drop began its journey all over again.
Did you know? No two clouds are the same; they always change shape.
Class activity
Draw 4 pictures in a circle on the board: lake → vapour → cloud → rain. Children draw arrows and explain the water cycle in their own words.
