In front — behind
Textbook pp. 44–45
GoalUse “in front” and “behind” correctly; understand that one thing can hide another.
New words
in front · oldindabehind · orqada (ortida)to hide, to block · to‘smoqqueue, line · navbat
Explanation
What is on the side our face looks at is “in front”; what is on our back side is “behind”. When one thing stands in front of another, it hides the one behind — we cannot see all of it. In a queue we also know who is in front and who is behind.
Worked examples
A tree stands in front of the house, so part of the house cannot be seen.
In the queue Ali is in front of Lola, and Lola is behind Ali.
Class activity
“Train”: 5 children stand in a line. The teacher asks: “Who is in front of Nodira? Who is behind her?” Then the children swap places and the questions are repeated.
