Explanation

Your diet is the food you usually eat: breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Foods are made of nutrients, and each nutrient has a job. Carbohydrates give energy to move and think. They are found in bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. Proteins help the body grow and repair itself. They are found in beans, lentils, eggs, chicken, fish and milk. Fats store energy and help keep us warm. They are found in oil, butter, cheese and nuts, and we need only a little. Most foods have more than one nutrient. A meal with all three helps us. Think about yesterday: write what you ate at each meal. There are no wrong answers. We are just finding out what is in our food.

My food map. Write what you ate yesterday for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Use three colours: colour carbohydrate foods yellow, protein foods red and fatty foods blue. Which colour do you see most? Which do you see least? This is not a test: it only shows what is in your food.
