Explanation
Culture is the way a group of people live. It includes celebrations, food, clothes, music, art, stories and languages. Egypt has many celebrations. In Ramadan, colourful lanterns hang in the streets and children carry small ones. At the Eids, families wear nice clothes, visit each other and share food. Christian families celebrate Christmas in January, with a family meal. Sham El-Nessim is a spring day when families of all kinds go outside, eat together and colour eggs. Every celebration shows what people love and share.
Worked examples
In Ramadan, Mina’s street has lanterns between the balconies, and the children carry small ones.
Salma’s family goes to the park for Sham El-Nessim. They colour eggs and eat outside.
Karim and his neighbours celebrate on different days, but they share sweets and good wishes. Sharing is part of our culture too.
Class activity
Make a celebration poster. Draw a celebration you enjoy in your family or your country. Show what people wear, eat and do, and use bright colours. Tell a friend about it, then ask how they celebrate. Listen with respect.
