Different and together

Discover P2 Term 2: Axis 3, Chapter 3
GoalExplain that people are different, and show respect by asking friends questions and listening to their answers.
New words
diverse · made of people or things that are different from each otherrespect · to treat people kindly and listen to themsurvey · asking many people the same question and counting the answers
Explanation

Our class is diverse. That means the children are different from each other. One child likes rice and another likes fish. One likes football and another likes swimming. We celebrate differences when we ask questions politely and listen to the answers. We show respect: we do not laugh at an answer. We can also find what we share, because friends are alike in many ways. In a survey we ask many children the same question and count the answers. Being different and being together can go side by side.

Ten children choose their favourite fruit. The pictogram shows the answers: apple 4, banana 3, orange 3. Each picture is one child.
Kind questions begin with “please” and end with “thank you”. We listen to the whole answer.
Class activity

Ask and listen. Ask five people (friends or family) two questions: “What is your favourite food?” and “What is your favourite game?” Write or draw each answer. Find one answer that is the same and one that is different. Remember to say please and thank you.
