GoalCompare people and places in Egypt and tell how we are alike and how we are different.
New words
alike · the same in some waysdifferent · not the samecommunity · a group of people who live together in a place
Explanation

People in Egypt live in many kinds of places: villages beside the Nile, big cities, towns by the sea and green places in the desert. We are alike in many ways. Every child needs water, food, a home, a family and friends. We are different too. Our homes, our weather, our foods and our jobs can be different. A farmer, a fisher and a driver do different work. Being different makes our country interesting. We can say: “We are alike because … We are different because …”.

Worked examples
SalmaHabibaboth
Salma lives in a village beside the Nile. Habiba lives in a big city. They are alike because they both go to school and love football. They are different because Salma sees fields and Habiba sees tall buildings.
OmarKarim
Omar’s family lives by the sea and catches fish. Karim’s family lives near a desert and grows dates. Their food and their work are different.
Different foods make our meals interesting. A table with rice, bread and salad has something for everyone.

Alike and different. Talk with a friend or someone in your family. Find three ways you are alike, for example “We both like football.” Find two ways you are different, for example “I wake up early and you wake up late.” Say your sentences aloud. Then draw yourselves side by side.
