Объяснение
Classical literary science has three parts: the science of aruz (verse metre), the science of rhyme and the science of artistry, ilmi badi‘ (“the science of beautiful, rare expression”). Devices of artistic imagery express a plain thought poetically. Personification brings a thing to life as a person; husni ta’lil explains an event with an unrelated but beautiful cause; hyperbole is extreme exaggeration; talmeh is an allusion to a historical event, person or literary hero (for example Yusuf and Ya’qub). Ishtiqoq uses words of one root (jon and jonona), tazod sets words of opposite meaning against each other (foot and head), tajnis is a play on words of the same form (toshurmoq and tosh urmoq). In classical poetry images such as the flask, jug or cup often mean the heart, and wine means love and affection. In analysing a couplet one first fixes the meaning of the words, puts the parts of the sentence in the usual order, then explains what the poet wants to say and how he says it.
Примеры
Example: in Atoyi’s couplet a rose hears the beloved’s praise and blushes with shame: the rose is ashamed like a person – personification; saying red roses appeared because of this praise – husni ta’lil.
Example: the expressions “Yusuf of beauty” and “Ya’qub-like house of sorrow” allude to the story of Yusuf and Ya’qub (talmeh): the lover asks the beloved not to throw him into grief as Ya’qub was. A reader who knows the story understands the couplet fully.
Работа в классе
Write device names on five cards and examples on five others. Groups find matching cards, pair them and explain.
Упражнения
1
What three parts does classical literary science consist of?
The science of aruz, of rhyme, and of artistry (ilmi badi‘).
2
State the difference between personification and husni ta’lil.
Personification brings a thing to life as a person; husni ta’lil gives a hodisa an unrelated but beautiful cause.
3
Identify and explain the device in the line about the foot and the head.
Tazod: “foot” and “head” are opposite words; the lover’s following the beloved everywhere is stressed.
4
Why does wine in a flask symbolise the heart and love?
In classical poetry the flask or jug means the heart and wine love; so hurting the heart is likened to throwing a stone at the flask.
