About the comedy “Temir xotin”
According to the textbook, “Temir xotin” is a unique phenomenon in Boshbekov’s work and in Uzbek drama for its artistic level and aesthetic value. The play first won the top prize at a republic theatre festival, then was the absolute winner at the festival of the Central Asian republics; a film and an operetta were made from it. From the start the author shows that something is missing in every object in Qo‘chqor’s household: this shows he has grown used to little. Qo‘chqor treats his wife from above, yet because he is simple, quick-witted and humorous, the reader likes him. In Qumri’s phrase “you said what you had to say” the textbook sees a great disappointment: in an Uzbek family, telling a wife to “go away” was close to divorce. Qumri goes to her mother’s and not her father’s: the textbook explains that a mother understands her child in any case. The word “rakatopsin” is typical of Qo‘chqor’s speech and shows how quickly he flares up. Qumri does not expose her husband when he boasts that he “reads a lot”, which shows her inner decency.
Choose three details from the comedy (for example objects, “rakatopsin”, going to her mother’s) and in a table write what trait or relation each reveals: detail – meaning – evidence.
