Units 7–9: words from museums, toys and tales
In Units 7 to 9 we learned words for museums (artifact, preserve, mummify), materials (gold, silver, clay, granite), animals of Ancient Egypt (hippo, crocodile, ibis, baboon, eagle), toys and games (marbles, skateboard, doll’s house, action figure, board game) and stories (character, setting, narrator, ending, moral). Words can be sorted into groups: history, games and stories. Some phrases are useful too: make up a story, have a go, beat a friend in a game. In this review you read and write new sentences. Look at the pictures first, then use a word in a sentence of your own. Check the spelling of long words such as artifact, granite and skateboard.
| History | Games and toys | Stories |
|---|---|---|
| artifact | marbles | character |
| granite | skateboard | setting |
| preserve | doll’s house | narrator |
| ibis, baboon | action figure | ending, moral |
Where does marbles go? History, games or stories?
Games. And granite goes with history. It is a hard stone.
What about narrator?
Stories. The narrator tells the story.
Marbles is a game with small glass balls. A mummy was preserved with care. I will make up a story about an ibis.
Word sort. On three pieces of paper write History, Games and toys, Stories. The child writes each review word on the right piece (artifact, gold, ibis, baboon, marbles, skateboard, character, moral). Then the child chooses one word from each piece and writes a sentence.
