Explanation

Last year you learned many food, sport and weather words. Fruit is sweet food, such as bananas, grapes and oranges. Vegetables are plants we cook or eat, such as carrots, onions and potatoes. We say what sport we do with the present simple: I play football on Fridays. She swims in the summer. For the weather we say: It is sunny, rainy, windy, cloudy or stormy. Some weather causes problems: a heat wave, a sandstorm, a flood or a drought. If there is a sandstorm, we stay inside with a grown-up.

Worked examples
Yara

Is a potato a fruit?

Omar

No, it is a vegetable. Grapes and bananas are fruit.

Yara

Which sport do you like?

Omar

I like swimming. I swim every Saturday, but not when it is stormy.

Listen. Yara and Omar sort food and talk about sport.

It is a windy day in Alexandria. Heba does not play football outside today. Her cousin lives in Aswan. There it is sunny and very hot, and there is a heat wave. Her cousin stays inside and drinks a lot of water. Heba likes handball, and she plays it at school every Tuesday.
