Role-play conversations
In a role-play we act out a conversation. Each person has a part. Good talkers take turns: one person speaks and the other listens. They look at each other and use polite words such as “please”, “thank you” and “you are welcome”. People talk for a reason. They may ask for help, ask a question, share news, make a plan or say thank you. Our voice matters too. The same words can sound kind or angry. A kind voice makes people want to help.
Excuse me, Teacher. Can you help me, please?
Of course. What do you need?
I do not understand this question.
Let us read it together.
Thank you, Teacher.
Grandpa, how did you make kites when you were small?
With paper and sticks. Shall I show you?
Act it out in pairs. Choose a reason to talk: ask for help, share news or make a plan. Decide who speaks first. Say three lines each and use “please” and “thank you”. Then swap parts. Tell your partner one thing they did well as a listener.
Look, I drew our street!
How lovely! Tell me about it.
